The blues before the red!

Updated: Feb 21, 2023

PMS - Pre Menstrual Syndrome includes physical and psychological symptoms that start 7 to 10 days before the period and go away when the period starts . There can be breast tenderness , body pains, bloating, sleeping problems, unusual appetite. Women with PMS often feel irritable, anxious and have low energy levels .

Its mostly because some women are more responsive to the hormonal changes that occur during the end of the menstrual cycle

Its seen in 15 out of 20 women who menstruate!

So what do you do now to help with PMS?

1) Inform your loved ones that you have PMS and not to mind if you are a little harsh or emotional

2) EXERCISE/YOGA!!!

You will notice a lot of difference in mood swings when you workout even for 3days a week. There are a lot of online videos to help with exercises of your choice.

3) Keep yourself busy - cooking , watching your favourite shows , reading etc. If you still feel cranky , go out for a movie or dinner.

Basically , do something you enjoy.

4) Avoid alcohol, caffiene and salt rich diets which can worsen the bloating

For women with severe symptoms , there are medicines available like hormones, anxiolytics, antidepressants , etc . So, if PMS is effecting your quality of life, you should counsult a doctor.

Keep a period diary and note down when your symptoms start so that you can be better prepared for your next cycle

PMS is totally normal and common. It even implies that your ovaries are working just fine! Just educate the people around you that all they have to do is give you some space and pamper you ;)

Enjoy your womanhood!
